NMPF Reviews Merits Of Its Comprehensive Farm Bill Proposal During Senate Hearing

NMPF last week urged the Senate to develop a new farm bill that is more predictable and market-oriented, and presented members of the Senate Agriculture Committee with a comprehensive package of new farm policy proposals to achieve those objectives. In testimony April 24th to the Senate, NMPF President and CEO Jerry Kozak said that "we firmly believe that a multi-faceted approach is necessary in order to create a more effective, market-oriented safety net." NMPF Calls On USDA To Finally Implement Mandatory Auditing Protocols Under Development For Six Years
|
The recent revelation that nonfat dry milk prices were not accurately reported in monthly government surveys is evidence that the U.S. Department of Agriculture needs to do a more thorough, methodical job of reviewing the product pricing and inventory data it collects, according to NMPF. The USDA said last month that the National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) had been collecting price data on nonfat dry milk sales that did not accurately reflect current market prices for the product. Successful NDLC Meeting
Nearly 200 people attended the 2007 National Dairy Leaders Conference in Stevenson, Washington, April 15-17. The three-day conference focused on many of the high-profile issues affecting the dairy industry today, including the development of the next Farm Bill, organic marketing trends, animal biotechnology, cheese industry economics, and the push for renewable farm-based energy sources. John B. Adams Announces Retirement from NMPF
John Adams has announced his retirement from NMPF, effective July 1, 2007. John has served the NMPF membership since 1970, and has been active in supporting dairy producer and cooperative goals in a variety of areas, including, most recently, as Director of Animal Health and Farm Services. John's experience and expertise will be sorely missed at NMPF and we wish him well in his retirement and any future endeavors with the agriculture industry. More ... |
