The following statement was issued by Jerry Kozak, President and CEO of the National Milk Producers Federation, regarding the House and Senate’s final approval of the Farm Bill:

“We are pleased that the House and Senate have overridden the President’s veto of the Farm Bill. For the second time in a week, Congress has spoken strongly and clearly about the future direction of farm policy, by overriding yesterday’s veto and giving final approval to the 2008 Farm Bill. The House overrode the veto Wednesday by a vote of 316-108, and the Senate followed Thursday by approving the measure 82-13.

Through these resounding decisions in each chamber, Congress has clearly acknowledged that this important legislation needed to be adopted, so that America’s farmers have a new and better program for the next five years.

This measure is a positive and balanced package of policy items that will benefit dairy  farmers. NMPF again applauds the bipartisan work that has gone into completing the Farm Bill, and we appreciate the leadership in Congress in moving the Farm Bill to completion.”
