NMPF Pleased With Outcome of Estate Tax Debate

Thursday night, the House of Representatives approved the controversial tax extension bill, which includes a measure exempting the first $5 million of a person’s estate, with a 35% tax rate on estates larger than that. If Congress had not acted on the death tax, it would have revered to a pre-2001 level on January 1, 2011, of 55% on property valued at more than $1 million. NMPF has been one of many farm organizations active in urging the White House, and the House and Senate, to address for estate tax reform. |
